Mrs. Florence Drake Succumbs Wednesday
A true pioneer, she came to the community with her husband in 1902, and the family engaged in farming until 1926, when AlfredDrake succumbed to the Grim Reaper. Mrs. Drake has since made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Birdie Watkins.
Florence Johnson was born on June 27, 1859, in Alabama, and later moved with her parents to Texas where she met and married Alfred Drake. Eleven children were born to this union, two passing on in infancy. She was a member of the Baptist church.
She leaves to mourn her loss nine daughters, Mrs. Fannie Bryant of Littlefield, Texas, Mrs. Willie Milliken, Mrs. Tish Moore, Mrs. Betty Hess, Mrs. Birdie Watkins, Mrs. Silas Tramel, Mrs. Dovey Wilkerson, Mrs. Alma Watkins, and Mrs. Dorothy Airington.
Funeral arrangements are to hold the services Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church with Rev. N. N. Ivans officiating. The burial will be in Laflin cemetary.
Mrs. Drake was exceptionally kind and bore her illness with patience and fortitude. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family.
