Larry Melton East

Moore Truck Driver Killed In Tulsa
Tulsa (UPI)--A tractor-trailer truck with two trailers jackknifed on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 44 Monday, killing the driver and blocking traffic for more than three hours.
Larry Melton East, 32, Moore, was pronounced dead at the scene from head and trunk injuries. Authorities said East, a driver for United Parcel Service, apparently fell asleep and his truck slid into a curb on the rain-slick highway and then crashed into an overpass.
workers spent three hours removing the wrecked trailers from the eastbound lanes. For a time, traffic was backed up for five miles, and at least one rear-end collision occurred when a car crrested a hill and came upon the backed up vehicles.
Traffic in the westbound lanes also was slowed by drivers peering at the wreck, resulting in another rear-end collision.
Highway Patrol and Tulsa Police officers were forced to divert traffic to a service road while the interstate lanes were cleared of diesel fuel and minor repairs were made to the Yale Ave. overpass.
