Mildred Oleta East was born April 23, 1922 in rural Pontotoc County to Lee Van and Martha Pearl (Newby) McCarty, died August 5, 2004. She married Herny Melton East in Tologa, Oklahoma on August 22, 1942. She worked several years as a library assistant for the OU Health Science Center and was a longtime member of Southern Hills Baptist Church in southwest Oklahoma City. Oleta was preceded in death by her parents and special step-mother, Lilly Cox, her husband Melton, a son Larry, one brother, Delmer McCarty and her sisters, Irene Elliott, Fay Fitch, Lilly Vee Star and Hazel Robbins. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Teresa and Van Coe, of Shawnee, Lena and Ron Francis, also of Shawnee, and Sharon and Bill Gordon, of Macomb, two sons, William East and wife Jean of Bakersfield, California, Dwayne East and wife Sherene, of St. George, Utah and daughter in law, Sandra East, of Moore. Three sisters Juanita McGowan of Rockland, California, Bertha Pearl Brady of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Geneva Parsons of Grants, New Mexico. She is survived by sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh with burial in Resthaven Cemetery at SW 104th and Western in Oklahoma City.
